International shipping and freight quote guide
For a comparable quotation, send the exact origin and destination, commodity, weight and volume, ready date and temperature requirements together. A transport price is only meaningful when the included services are clear.
Initial planning information only. Confirm service availability, documents, price and timing for each shipment.
Prepare one complete freight enquiry
Give support enough information to compare the same shipment scope. Separate the production country from the loading country and the final delivery point from a port or border.
| What to send | What it resolves |
|---|---|
| Collection and delivery city; production origin | Clarifies imports, exports and any proposed transit through Iran. |
| Packed dimensions, package count and actual gross weight | Separates geometric volume from weight and identifies handling questions. |
| Ready date, cargo description and temperature if needed | Makes the requested equipment and timing clear without assuming availability. |
| Named delivery place and any agreed Incoterms rule | Helps support distinguish transport scope from buyer/seller responsibilities. |
Compare proposals with the same end point
Ask which legs, collection, handling, port or terminal charges, waiting and insurance are included, excluded or still to be confirmed. Record who arranges each handover. A request is reviewed by support; it is not cargo acceptance or a reservation.
Before requesting a quote
- Loading and delivery address or city; specify port, customs terminal or consignee warehouse delivery.
- Exact commodity, package count, net and gross weight, dimensions and volume; container size and type if relevant.
- Cargo ready date and latest acceptable delivery date; give a range when dates are not fixed.
- For reefer cargo, the shipper should specify the required temperature range, packaging and loading conditions.
- Available documents and who handles customs at each end; flag an unknown tariff code for review.
- Payment currency, advance and balance terms, and responsibility for port, border and waiting costs.
Questions for each destination
China
Specify the final port or inland city and proposed transport mode. If a hub port is involved, ask about transfers, costs for each leg and responsibility for connecting legs. Capacity and departures must be confirmed for your cargo.
UAE
Distinguish port delivery from delivery to a warehouse in Dubai, Sharjah or another city. Ask about destination trucking, unloading, port costs and cold-chain arrangements.
Central Asia
Confirm transit countries, proposed crossings, who handles transit documents and whether truck changes or cargo handling are planned.
Türkiye
Confirm the delivery city, proposed crossing and cargo-specific transport conditions. For reefer cargo, agree on the temperature requirement and who records temperature reports.
Iraq
Provide the consignee address, proposed border and customs responsibilities. Ask whether the price ends at the border or includes final delivery and unloading.
Compare quotations on the same basis
- Scope: exact start and end points; origin and destination trucking, loading and unloading.
- Exclusions: port, customs, waiting, documents, insurance and temperature services.
- Timing: departure date, estimated transit and stated causes of delay.
- Payment: currency, quote validity, advance and balance terms and payment records.
Shipping questions answered
How is a firm freight price determined?
After reviewing the cargo, origin, destination, ready date and service scope. Ask for a written quote with currency, validity and exclusions; one route price does not apply to every cargo and date.
Is the transit time on a route page guaranteed?
No. It is for initial planning. Departure schedules, border queues, customs and connections need checking for the shipment. Any delivery commitment should be clear in the transport agreement.
Does every shipment need all the listed documents?
No. Requirements depend on the commodity, mode, origin, destination and transit countries. Confirm the final checklist with the transport and customs parties before loading.

Freight terms: meanings and quotation checks
Use these definitions to understand a freight quote; confirm services, documents and shipment conditions separately.
- CMR
A CMR consignment note records cargo and transport-party details for international road carriage under the relevant convention.
Match the parties, delivery point and cargo details to the transport instructions.
- TIR
TIR is a customs transit system for moving goods in sealed load compartments under customs control.
Confirm applicability to the actual itinerary, countries and shipment.
- FCL
FCL books a whole container for a shipment; the container need not be filled to capacity.
Specify container type, size, payload and origin/destination charges in the quote.
- LCL
LCL shares container space with other consignments; suitability depends on the cargo dimensions and handling needs.
Ask separately about consolidation, deconsolidation, storage and final delivery charges.
- Ro-Ro
Ro-ro ships load and unload wheeled cargo, or cargo on suitable transport units, horizontally onto or off a deck.
Confirm vehicle acceptance, weight, height and securing with the actual vessel; a method name does not confirm a sailing.

- Incoterms® 2020
Incoterms rules allocate buyer and seller obligations, costs and risk transfer; they do not replace a carriage contract.
State the rule, exact place and edition; check the quotation scope.
